Scoping & Delivery

Milestone

Definition

A significant checkpoint in a project that triggers a review, approval, or payment. Example: "Design phase complete" or "Beta deployed to staging." Milestones break a large project into manageable stages, each with its own deliverables and often its own invoice.

Why It Matters

Milestone-based billing protects both sides — the client pays for completed stages, and you don't do 3 months of work before seeing any money.
