Smartsheet is built for spreadsheet-style internal ops — grid views, cross-sheet formulas, and PMO-style reporting. Many Smartsheet buyers are enterprise ops teams, not agencies billing clients by the hour.
If you deliver client work and care about margins, CRM, and invoicing, these five tools fit a different job than Smartsheet. For a head-to-head feature table, see our Corcava vs Smartsheet comparison.
The five alternatives
1. Corcava
Built for teams that sell hours and deliver projects: CRM deals become projects, time rolls into invoices, and Project Finances tracks client vs team cashflow. Lighter than Smartsheet’s spreadsheet ops, stronger on the revenue side than grid-only tools.
Typical buyer: 5–50 person agency or consultancy also using PSA-style workflows.
2. Monday.com
Visual boards replace spreadsheet grids for teams that prefer drag-and-drop over formulas. Agencies often run client work here but still connect invoicing and CRM elsewhere.
3. Teamwork.com
Agency-native PM with time tracking and billing features closer to client delivery than Smartsheet’s internal-ops default. Compare carefully on CRM depth and margin reporting.
4. ClickUp
Maximum feature surface in one subscription without spreadsheet overhead. Service businesses can make it work with templates and integrations, but you assemble the client-revenue workflow yourself.
5. Wrike
Enterprise PM with resource planning and cross-department workflows — a peer category to Smartsheet for internal ops. Strong PM rigor; CRM and invoicing still require a separate stack for client-service businesses.
