Tracking Time in the Browser
Overview
You can start and stop time directly from the Corcava web app—no desktop application or API required. When you have permission to add manual time, a time tracker chip appears in the top header. Use it to start and stop with one click, choose a project and optional task, add notes, and handle "away" time when you return.
This is ideal when you're already working in the browser and want to track time without switching to the desktop app.
Where the Time Tracker Appears
- Location — The time tracker appears in the top header of the app (next to the main navigation).
- Visibility — It is shown only when your account has permission to add manual time (controlled by your team admin).
- When not tracking — The chip shows "Start tracking."
- When tracking — The chip shows the current project name and elapsed time (e.g. "Project Name — 01:23:45").
How to Start Tracking
- Click the time tracker chip in the header.
- In the panel that opens:
- Project — Select the project you're working on (required).
- Task (optional) — Optionally select a task; the list shows tasks assigned to you for the selected project.
- Note (optional) — Add a short note (e.g. what you're working on).
- Click Start. The chip updates to show the project and a running timer.
While You're Tracking
- Stop — Click the chip and choose Stop to end the current interval.
- Add note — Click the chip and choose Add note to attach a note to the current interval without stopping.
- Switch task — Choose Switch task to stop the current session; you can then start again with a new project or task from the same panel.
Reconciling Away Time
If you leave the browser tab open or step away for a while, Corcava may detect that there was no activity. When you return, a reconcile dialog can appear asking what to do with that time.
Options:
- Stop at last active (recommended) — End the interval at the last time activity was detected. The time between then and now is not counted. This keeps your time data accurate.
- Keep running — Continue the timer as if you were active the whole time. Use only if you want to count the full period.
- Split as idle — Same effect as "Stop at last active" for the current implementation; the interval is ended at the last active time.
You only see this dialog for time you started in the browser (web tracker). Time started from the desktop app or API uses different rules.
Tips
- One active interval — You can only have one active time interval at a time. If you start from the browser while the desktop app or API is already tracking, you'll be prompted to stop the current session first.
- Projects you see — Normal users see only projects they're assigned to; team admins may see all team projects.
- Tasks — The task dropdown shows tasks assigned to you for the selected project, so you can track at task level when needed.
