Time Tracking MCP Server: Automate Work Logs and Focus Sessions

A time tracking MCP server enables AI assistants to start and stop timers, attach notes to work sessions, and log time automatically. Instead of manually tracking time, your AI can manage timers and create accurate work logs based on your conversations.

How MCP Time Tracking Works

With Corcava's time tracking MCP tools, your AI assistant can:

Start Timers

Begin tracking time on a specific task:

  • AI finds the task
  • Calls start_time_tracking
  • Timer starts in Corcava

Stop Timers

End tracking and log time:

  • AI stops current timer
  • Calls stop_time_tracking
  • Time is logged to task

Check Status

See what's currently tracking:

  • AI calls get_tracking_status
  • Shows active timer
  • Prevents double-tracking

Example Workflows

Starting a Focus Session

You: "Start tracking time on the login feature task"

AI:

  1. Finds the task using list_tasks
  2. Checks current tracking status
  3. Stops any active timer if needed
  4. Starts timer on the specified task
  5. Confirms timer is running

Logging Work with Notes

You: "Stop the timer and add a note that I completed the authentication flow"

AI:

  1. Stops the active timer
  2. Logs time to the task
  3. Adds a comment with your note
  4. Shows summary of time logged

Best Practices for Accurate Time Logs

1. Start Timers When You Begin Work

Don't wait until the end of the day to log time. Start tracking when you begin working on a task.

2. Add Notes When Stopping

Always include a brief note about what you accomplished when stopping a timer.
